Battle of Hanau 1813

My two friends Rainer and Dirk made two dioramas for the special exhibition of the 200th aniversary of the battle of Hanau on the 30/31th October 1813 in the local museum.
First two lines of French and Austrian infantry, the latter supported by Bavarian Landwehr

The next after the battle, French troops fishing out Bavarian deads of the river Kinzig

A little bit "unusual", but an interesting subject.

The masters for San Juan Hill are ready

Massimo sent me this photos today which means that within 10 day we will have the figures and then we will put them in the mould ASAP.

Oh I like this subject so much, can't wait to start to work on a diorama. In the past I painted Airfix Anzacs and Marines to Yankees and ACW confederates into Spanish. Now there are some proper guys to paint.

For those of you interested in the campaign and who don't have sources in the library there are two good
books which offer plates and an overview of the campaign

Brassey''s Spanish-American war

Of course an Osprey

for the battle itself - the Osprey Campaign

And here are the photos of the masters.

And so should it look like :-))

Cröbern 1813 - part of the battle of Leipzig

The historians between you surely recognised that last week was the 200th aniversary of the battle of nations in Leipzig.

There was a big show with around 6000 reenactors etc. and on the last weekend the official battle.

Beside this there were special exhibitions in the museums. One of them is a really breathtaking dioram from Wolfgang Meyer and his friends.

The photos which follow here are from Andy Brune with the permission of Wolfgang Meyer.
Wolfgang has his own homepage at http://www.croebern-1813.de/40199/41551.html. There you can see the making of and much more photos.

In my eyes the best diorama I have ever seen in this scale - and for sure the most expensive as it was made completely of Art-Miniaturen figures - and all of them originals:-)

For those of you who like the figures they see, they are all for sale at the Art-Miniaturen shop.

This here is the most shocking....

The Etruscian temple from Stephan Berry

In the meantime Stephan finished another ancient masterpiece.

I think the early Italian - or Roman - history is still not really covered in 1:72. So I liked it to get this little gem to show it here

28mm Prussian artillery for 1806-07 from Ingo

You know that I am focused on 1/72 alone. My friend Ingo seems to change to 28mm. A pity as he did great stuff in 1/72 too. A lot of guys changed to 28mm what I can understand as the figures are really good.

On the other hand too expensive for creating huge dioramas and I have already a collection of 70.000 painted 1/72 ones.

But that doesn't stop me from showings Ingo's figures here which will be for sale from the Schillings soon I guess.

In 1/72 we have the HAT artillery - but one things that is missing are the Towarcies (lancers) I think this could be a go for Hagen...

Rocroi - the last bunch of photos

Just in case it is boring for you the good thing is this will be the last post about the Rocroi diorama.

For the rest, enjoy them:-))

Rüdiger Fischers Dresden City around 1730

And his older Fritz and the miller
This is a nice little one from Klaus Hinderks. German Askaris in WW1. The truck is an old Matchbox car.

This Egyptian boat was made from matches!!
Another nice 1/72 submarine. remember the ones I posted one year ago

Indian camp. In the past I have seen a lot of peaceful Indian vignettes and dioramas. Seems to be a popular subject.

Imperial Romans are for sure popular:-)

WW1 Trench warfare with the Germans being a mix of Zvezda, HAT and Airfix.

They had it under guard - otherwise I would have used it in our Rocroi-diorama!!!

Of  course I have to post Michel's pirate fortress here too:-)

 Ups, more WW1
 And a nice Husite-war vignette.

Another Alamo-Diorama

This one here I found some years ago when I visited my old friend John in Wales. There was a village with an empty shop in it. Just in the window were some figure dioramas. Beside this one all 54mm with a lot of Condee-figures etc. A pity that we came too late for seeing the shop opened...

Sorry for the bad photos, this was made with my old analog camera through the window.

Prussian Towarzysz

The next project we start to work on for Hagen-Miniatures is a unit of Prussian Towarcies in the war of 1807.

See here a painting from Knötel aboout this unit which fought the French in Poland after the desaster of Jena-Auerstaedt up to the peace of Tilsit.

Massimo will take over the sculpting of this unit and here are his first steps of the sculpting

A nice 1/72 Culloden diorama

Our hobbyfriend Stefan Mayer sent me these photos from his new Culloden diorama. The first bigger one I have seen in 1/72 about this subject. And the first painted Redbox-Figures. He also organised the Highlanders into clans.

I think this looks very good and hope you enjoy it too.

Beside the Redbox and Strelets figures for this campaign I am happy to have the old Ulf Debeller figures in my collection too. So who knows, maybe I can make such a diorama for myself too.

I like the artillery conversions

And here the highland irregular cavalry?

Now the first photo of the Royal Eccosais

And here are the finished Prussian lancers

I am always impressed to see how fast Massimo can work in this quality. Here are the finished
Prussian lancers for the campaign of 1807 as you have seen two postings ago.

Battle of Leuthen in flats

Here the photos from a flat figure diorama I made in the Plassenburg museum in Kulmbach this year in August.

Still great to see what units are available in other scales. Hopefully we have this in 1/72 in the future too.

Well, this kind of carriage we already have in 1/72 :-))

See our shop for it

Hopefully the HAT SYW Prussians will arrive soon to create such a advancing line.

And what we are still missing are proper Austrian line. The old Revell are nice, but too less poses. No real good metals available and resin is simply not useful for such big dioramas.

New Pancho Villa figures available soon

Here is Massimo's latest work which he made for my friend Markus Schenk. Another interesting subject for a diorama or wargame.

More figures for the Mexican revolution are available from Spencer Smith and Raventhorpe in 1/72. For the US the old Airfix WW1 Americans could be used too.

Now we have to think about a train, breaking in the Federals fortress:-)))

The siege of Fort William Henry

After the Culloden diorama Stefan sent me photos of one of his earlier works. Thanks to James Fenimore Cooper one of the sieges/battles that nearly every child 30 years ago knew. With todays teenagers I am not so sure:-)

Ok, not always the right uniforms in the units, but it lookslike great fun and I like the wood with the stones.

A parcel from Massimo

There are good days and lesser good ones. Today is a good day for Andy and me because the postman brought a parcel this morning.

Look what was in it:-)

So I guess in a week or so we have them in the shop, ready for selling:-)))

The Irish army in the 1930ies

Some years ago I went with some friends to the UK and to Ireland to visit a friend who lived in Dublin.

He showed us his favourite hobby-shop there which was smaller then my hobbyroom:-) But it had it's flair and the guy running the shop told us that the boss of the Irish Nationalmuseum was a member of their model-club.

Of course the next day we visited the museum which has some real interesting military subjects to offer.
When we met the guy there he just organised some dioramas for an exhibition of the Irish army.

As I have never seen such stuff before and later I thought it might be interesting for some of you too.

Here you can recognise some of the old Airfix-Figures, but I am not sure which manufactor the others are.

In addition a vignette in 1:35 just to complete the photo-range I have

So thanks to Schmitty to send these photos over!

The next set we bring into the Hagen-Shop is a wish from our collector-friend Thomas who wanted to cover up the invasion of Korea from 1592-1598.

See here the first figures in the range.

Trouble with the Mexicans

Dear Hobbyfriends,

I want to inform you about some unhappy things about these Mexican figures and want to ask you about your mind about this.

What happened here is that a collector wanted to have Mexicans in scale 1:72. As a source he put a photo from the web of 54mm figures which he liked and send the photo to the sculpter.

Image

Image

Massimo simply sculpted the figures in 1/72 and was so good that they come very close to the photos he got.

What happened next was a flow of mails and abuses by Mr. Steve Weston who is the seller of the original 54mm figures.

He se a lot of mails, wanted to have names and details that he can sue all the people involved, even wanted to have the original masters and the moulds to destroy them. He told Andreas Brune from Hagen that he want to make this all officially, spread flyers and word around, etc. etc.

See what he did next here on his homepage

http://plasticsoldiers.co.uk/index.php/new-stock-3/

As we are making figures in 1/72 and Mr. Steve Weston sells figures in 54mm that is no really harm to anybody. Of course there is something like a copyright, but this goes for copying the original figures, let's say for example casting the originals in metal.

Here another sculpted made new figures in the same design as existing bigger figures. This is no break of any copyright as there doesn't exist a copyright of poses and design of figures.

You can have copyright of your own figures in your scale etc. If anybody would cast a figure made by another manufactor and sells it it is a break of law. But if a figures doesn't fit anymore in the original mould it is completly legal to produce it. If this would not the case there would be no conversions of figures on the market.

We can't understand all this as what we did here is nothing illegal as we are working in a complete different scale and material without using his figures of which he has the copyright in any other thing that using photos of them.

All in all a very sad behavior in our eyes. As I sad no financial harm done to anyone, just his pride is hurt.

I would like to hear your opinion on this subject.

cheers
Uwe
